6. Post-Placement & Finalization
Social-work visits, required reports, attorney services, court proceedings, and other required steps continue toward finalization.
Adoption Support From Start to Finish
Adoption involves much more than completing an application. There are documents to gather, professionals to coordinate with, legal requirements to follow, and important decisions to make along the way.
Open Arms Adoption Co. helps coordinate that process so you have a team guiding you through each stage.
Depending on the circumstances, we work with licensed and legally authorized professionals including:
- Social workers
- Adoption attorneys
- Hospitals
- Courts
- Other licensed adoption professionals
- Agencies and professionals involved in interstate placements
Our goal is to provide clear communication and organized support throughout the adoption process.
Adoption Opportunities
Every adoption opportunity is different.
Some opportunities involve an expectant mother who is considering adoption during pregnancy. Others may involve a newborn who has already been born and is legally eligible for adoption.
Our role is to help coordinate appropriate opportunities between expectant parents and approved prospective adoptive families while respecting the wishes of everyone involved and following applicable legal and professional requirements.
Families may also be interested in being involved in the birth or hospital experience when an expectant mother wants that involvement and it is appropriate under the circumstances.
Meet Families Hoping to Adopt
Choosing an adoptive family can be an important part of an expectant parent's adoption plan.
Our family profiles allow visitors to learn more about prospective adoptive families, including their:
- Family and marriage story
- Children and pets
- Careers
- Hobbies and interests
- Faith and values
- Home and community
- Parenting philosophy
- Reasons for wanting to adopt
- Hopes for their future family
- Letter to an expectant mother
If you are interested in learning more about a particular family, you can contact Open Arms Adoption Co. through the family profile. We coordinate communication rather than providing direct private contact information.
Choose the Adoption Plan That's Right for You
There is no single type of adoption relationship that works for every family.
Depending on the circumstances and the wishes of the expectant parent, an adoption may be:
Open Adoption
An open adoption may allow ongoing communication and contact between the birth family and adoptive family according to the relationship and arrangements established by the parties.
Semi-Open Adoption
A semi-open adoption may involve communication or updates through an agreed-upon method, often with boundaries established by the parties.
Closed Adoption
A closed adoption generally involves limited or no ongoing identifying communication between the birth family and adoptive family.
Our team can help explain the differences and help you understand the options available to you.
What Your Adoption Fees Cover
We believe families should understand the costs involved before beginning the process.
For prospective adoptive families, our current fee structure includes:
Initial Application
The initial application fee is paid when you begin the process with Open Arms Adoption Co.
85% of the $500 application fee is refundable, subject to the applicable terms.
Home Study & Background Check
This fee covers the home-study evaluation process, including required background checks, document review, interviews, and the home safety walkthrough conducted with the assigned social worker.
Agency Program Fee
Our total agency program fee is $5,000.
This fee is divided into two payments:
50% when the home study is approved and the family enters the agency program
50% when an adoption opportunity results in a match or placement
Post-Placement & Legal Finalization
Post-placement and finalization expenses are separate from the $5,000 agency program fee.
These costs may include adoption attorney services, court filing fees, required post-placement reports and visits, interstate clearance when applicable, and the legal work required through finalization.
The agency program fee covers the work Open Arms Adoption Co. performs throughout the program, including case management, matching coordination, communication, administrative work, professional coordination, and support involved in transitioning a child into the family's care.
Legal and court-related expenses may vary depending on the circumstances of the adoption.
